VICEREGAL. Government House, Wellington, February 17,

■ His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting "of the Executive Council this morning.

Mr. J. M. Smith, fields superintendent, Department of Agriculture, Auckland, has arrived in Wellington to take up the position of supervisor of Services Vegetable Production. Mi*. J. Tyler, Auckland City Engineer, is visiting Wellington. Mr. C. H. Benney, Under-Secretary for Mines, has returned to Wellington from Auckland.

The Rt. Rev. H. J. O'Neill is to be consecrated Coadjutor Bishop of Dunedin at St. Joseph's Cathedral on March 25. The consecrating prelate will be Archbishop O'Shea, of Wellington. Mr. R. J. Nosworthy, of Sydney, has retired from the position of managing director of Burns, Philp, and Company, Limited, but will retain his seat on the board of directors. Mr. Nosworthy joined the company in 1883, the year of its formation. Mr. H. G. Johnston, who has been an inspector in the Wellington Education Board district for the past six years, was farewelled by the board today in view of his impending departure on transfer to Auckland.
