A HAPPY OUTING

ALLIED SEAMEN VISIT A

SHEEP STATION

An interesting and enjoyable day, arranged by the Bx-itish Sailors' Society, was spent on Saturday when two bus loads of Allied seamen were taken for a whole day trip over the hills to Wainui-o-mata Valley through to the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Riddiford contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the day by giving the party permission to use their grounds and the cookhouse for the preparation of lunch, and the staff also gave valuable assistance. After lunch Mr. Riddiford conducted a tour of the sheds, yards, etc. thus giving the visitors an opportunity of seeing the workings of a large New Zealand sheep station. The society's rooms were packed over the weekend by seamen and servicemen. Items were given by visiting servicemen, the Jackson family, and by members of the Chart and Compass Club. The Sunday service was very well attended and was conducted by Mr. Willis of Tory Street.
