CHINESE LOOT AND SINK A SHIP

(Rec.| noon) CHUNGKING, Feb. 15. A Japanese transport laden with lead, gasoline, and rice from the South Seas was sunk by Chinese shore batteries off Fukien on February 8, after being disabled by a mine on January 30. The "Central News" says that Chinese shore units put out to the ship and took prisoner 32 Formosan seamen and killed a number on board, A Japanese gunboat attempted to prevent the Chinese from salvaging, the ship's cargo, but was driven off. Two days later the Chinese shelled and sank the transport.
