BIG AIR BATTLE

IN SHORTLAND ISLAND

AREA

LONDON, February 15. A Washington communique says that 11 Japanese Zeros were shot down in a big air battle over the Shortland Island area of the Solomons. Eight American aircraft were lost. Munda, the Japanese base, on New Georgia Island, was bombed twice yesterday. American aircraft also attacked the Japanese base at Kiska, in the Aleutians. Three enemy fighters were shot down.
