"PROFESSIONAL CADGER"

"This man is a real social pest and a professional cadger," said SeniorSergeant T. Campagnolo in the Magistrate's Court yesterday concerning James Macken, aged 49, a labourer, who pleaded guilty to being an idle and disorderly person in that he placed himself in the street to beg alms. Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., sentenced him to three months' imprisonment. The senior-sergeant said that he had been cadging money from sailors and marines and that when he was arrested he had in his possession a number of New Zealand and United States coins, of many denominations.
