CHIMNEY BILLS
The Lower Hutt City Council has been advised by the Government that it has acceeded to the council's request to bear overhead charges on accounts rendered to ratepayers for earthquake repairs. This arrangement will apply to other local bodies working tinder similar conditions. The Mayor (Mr. Andrews) states that the refund due will amount to approximately 33 1-3 per cent., and as soon as arrangements can be completed refunds will automatically follow. At last evening's meeting of the Petone Borough Council, the Town Clerk, Mr. H. Firth, stated that credits of from 2s to 10s per account, would be payable on Petone accounts.
The sympathy of the Petone Borough Council was extended last night to the relatives of the late Mr. M. B. Sharpe and the late Mr. G. H. Harrison, old and respected residents of Petone. The congratulations of the . Petone Borough Council were last evening tendered to its Town Clerk (Mr. H. Firth) and his staff for having returned from the Audit Department a clean balance-sheet.
