ENEMY BASES ATTACKED
OVER 60 IN A WEEK

Nine Japanese ships totalling more than 30.000 tons have been sunk or* damaged in further widespread air attacks by the Allies on the enemy j bases which ring Australia's north.; More than 60 attacks have been made on these bases during the past week by General Mac Arthur's bombers. Most of the targets were in areas from which-the Japanese could launch blows at the United States fleet in the Solomons. . Yesterday morning a harassing raid on Rabaul lasted for three hours. On the previous night 'an • attack was directed against vunakanau aerodrome, and fires which were started were visible for 100 miles. Enemy bombers had just landed when our attack began, and the aerodrome was conveniently illuminated by landing lights.
