MIGRATION OF MICE
WEST AUSTRALIAN PESTS
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) (Special Australian Correspondent.) SYDNEY, February 7. Millions of mice, migrating towards Kalgoorlie from the Nullabar Plains, are devouring everything in their path, states a Perth message. They have eaten even boots, clothing, and blankets in small settlements which they have invaded. One station owner reports that mice burrowed through a cement floor to reach the meat in his storehouse. i The drying up of the natural foods on the Nullabar Plains after a record wet winter is believed to be the explanation for the migration. The temperatures on the plain have been more than 120 degrees, and the heat is killing off rabbits, which were also in plague numbers.
