CIVIL DEFENCE
CONFERENCE THIS WEEK
An important conference connected with the Dominion's civil defence system will commence in Wellington on Friday. The recently-announced decisions of War Cabinet regarding E.P.S. activities will be discussed, and also the measures which are to be taken to put them into practice. It is therefore probable that the conference will decide the lines of the future training programme for those enrolled in the civil defence services. The Mayors of the four chief cities, who are district controllers of the E.P.S., as well as Mayors of other centres, have been invited to the conference by the Minister of Civil Defence (Mr. Wilson). The three Regional Commissioners will also be present. m _ m^_am
Pleading guilty in the Magistrate's Court today to escaping from custody in a Salvation Army home, Patrick Jepson, aged 50, a labourer, was sentenced by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labour.
