HERE AND THERE

Successful Club Dance

The Saturday night dance, held by the Public Service Women's Club in the attractive clubrooms, Hannah s Building, Lambton Quay, was well attended. Miss H. Black, of the Physical Welfare Branch, Internal Affairs Department, was hostess. The Department of Industries and Commerce was responsible for the excellent supper arrangements. The members of the forces appreciate the facilities of the club and the comfortable lounge available to them on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Y.W.C.A. Weekend Entertainment. The V Forces Hospitality Club again entertained a large number of men in the forces during the weekend. Groups assisting were the Lower Hutt Canteen Group, and girls of the Y.W.C.A. residence in Brougham Street, in addition to regular helpers. The Sunday service was conducted by the Rev. J; Churchill and the evening entertainment was a selection of educational sound films, arranged by Miss Mona Duggan. Splendid gifts of vegetables were received from the Khandallah, Russell Terrace, Oriental Bay, Hutt Valley, Petone, and Aitken Street Land Groups.

A special effort is being made to recruit girls and women into the Women's , Auxiliary Air Force, for direct entry into the radio-location units of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. To give all eligible women an opportunity to volunteer for this work the local women's War Service Auxiliary office, which is receiving all applications, will remain open to 9 o'clock on Friday nights for the duration of the appeal.
