(Rec. 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 1. ..President Roosevelt, at the request p£ Mr. E. J. Flynn, has withdrawn his nomination for the post .of U.S. : Ambassador to Australia. WASHINGTON, January 31. \. Explaining his request to the Fresi-. ' dent to withdraw his nomination, Mr. ■ Flynn stated that though his friends -in the Senate, assured him that condonation of the appointment was certain, he was not willing to permit his candidacy to be made an excuse for a ■ partisan political debate in the Senate. - Mr. Flynn added: "I do not question the motives of those who oppose ■the nomination, but I.am mindful of •grievances, real or fancied, against the President. My action was taken without consultation with the President.'
