ASSEMBLY OF TRUCKS
A decision to release further men from the Army temporarily tor employment at Wellington in the assembly of motor trucks required for Army purposes and for munition production work, was announced today by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones). The Army authorities will shortly be calling
lor volunteers for this work
The Minister said that iull particulars of the type of tradesmen required would be published in routine orders of the various home defence units and men wishing to offer their services would be' required to submit their names and qualifications to their' respective orderly rooms. ... ... . Some of the work would be suitable only tor men with previous experience, but a number of unskilled-hands would also be required. Men holding key positions in units or eligible for overseas service would not be released1." It was intended that district man:power officers would select from volunteers available those men who were most suitable for the various classes'of work offering. Preference would be given to men of lower medical grading and to men who were able to provide their own accommodation in or near Wellington.
