AIRMAN KILLED
TRAINING FLIGHT CRASH
When the aircraft he was piloting crashed during an operation training exercise from a North Island air training station yesterday afternoon, Sergeant Douglas Hepburn Ayson, whose mother, Mrs. D. Ayson, lives in Gore, was killed. He was the sole occupant of the plane. The cause of the accident is obscure.
Machines from Wellington. South and Central answered a call to 249 Riddiford Street today and had no difficulty in extinguishing with bucket pumps a small fire in a lean-to at the rear of the premises. A spark had become lodged in the shed and had set fire to the roof. Minor damage was caused.
Alexander -Peters, labourer, aged 40 (Mr. G. I. Joseph), who was seen yesterday to sell four bottles of beer to a sailor in Dixon Street, was fined £10 today by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., for selling liquor without a licence. He said he paid 2s 6d a bottle for it and sold W for 3s a bottle-
