GROWING STOCKS IN N.Z.
Speaking at Christchurch this week, the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) gave figures showing the increases in the Dominion war equipment,in the last twelve months, says the "StarSun." Additions to stock had been: Artillery of different types, 594; antiaircraft and coast artillery, 1531; rifles, 73,000; automatic weapons and mortars, 9086; small arms ammunition, 227,000,000 pounds; gun, ammunition, more than 2,000,000 rounds.
The position "of armoured motor vehicles was highly satisfactory, and still further releases were being made. Additional war equipment was. continuing, to be released, and when it arrived New Zealand should be in a most satisfactory position, added the Minister. .. -
■It was difficult to imagine the enormous demands for increased storage accommodation, commented the Minister. In the assembly and maintenance of the vast quantity of equipment a large amount of skilled and unskilled labour was necessary. ' .
