GIRAUD'S DECLARATION
FRENCH AS ALLIES
LONDON, January 29. General Giraud has made an important reference to the aims of his Government. He said, "Despite the disarmament imposed by our enemies, our African army has been able to play an Important role in Tunisia. Our soldiers have only one idea —to efface the I humiliation of 1940." < General Giraud then made a cordial reference to General de Gaulle. "France is. receiving complete support from Great Britain and the United States," he said. "They see in her the ally who has never given up the struggle, either abroad, thanks to General de Gaulle's volunteers, or at home, thanks to Frenchmen who have been prepared to take up arms again, often at the cost of their lives." General Giraud declared that France is fighting in full sovereignty on the side of the United Nations for the same cause and the same ideals. He ended: "General de Gaule and myself both have the same aim—to defeat the Germans. We shall collaborate closely, and. liaison has now been established between us. The collaboration of General Leclerc's troops from the Chad and our Camel troops from the Libyan desert is a symbolic sign for the future."
