MR. ROOSEVELT
EFFORT FOR FOURTH TERM
DETECTED
WASHINGTON, January 19. The Democratic Party National Committee unanimously elected the Post-master-General, Mr. Frank C. Walker, as chairman, in succession to Mr. Edward Flynn. « The "New York Herald Tribunes Washington correspondent says that prominent Republicans interpret Mr. Walker's election as a further indication that President Roosevelt intends to seek a fourth term. They say the Democrats want a "non-shoddy" man for the party. It is held that this is the real reason why the Australian appointment was offered to Mr. Flynn, whose paving-block matters might be difficult to explain during an election campaign. Republicans forecast an attempt to get solid support for Mr. Roosevelt from the southern Democrats, who dislike many of the actions of the NewDealers. It is claimed that Mr. Roosevelt will seek a fourth term ii the war is not finished on the-ground that he understands the position better than anyone else, and if the war is ended, on the basis that nobody better understands post-war problems.
