NAVY CROSS FOR U.S. CAPTAIN
NEW YORK, January 18,
Admiral W. Halsey has awarded the Navy Cross to Captain Thomas Gatch, whose battleship shot down 32 planes while protecting carriers in the battle of Santa Cruz Islands. Gatch was seriously wounded in the course of the battle.
