MUST BUILD IN BRICK
The director of the Union Manufacturing and Export Co., Ltd., appeared before the Petone Borough Council last night to show cause why he should not be ordered to demolish some wooden additions he had made to a building in the brick area, the additions having been made in spite of the refusal of a permit.
After hearing' the evidence the council decided to inform the company that it must demolish the wooden structures and replace them with brick within six months.
Lillian Edwards, munitions worker and waitress, aged 23, was sentenced to three months' hard labour by Mr. J. L. Stout S.M., for being idle and disorderly, and was convicted and discharged for stealing an engagement ring valued at £22. The police described her as an absolute menace to the community, „
