.DANCES AT NEW YEAR The decision of some of the service clubs to remain open during the holidays was more than justified by the crowds of servicemen who patronised them. The highlight of the Victory Club's activities was the masquerade dance on New Year's Eve. It was a particularly happy function, and between dances the- guests were entertained with ballets by girl members, with Jo Pound as soloist, and songs by Jean Day and Rosaleen Pound, everybody joining-in the choruses. Lever 8r05.,. Petqne, presented the club with all the prizes which were distributed during the weekend. THE GROSVENOR. The Grosvenor Club held its New Year dance on Saturday, and' was given great assistance by one of the guests. Private D. V. Henderson, who played all. the extras. On Sunday night everyone danced to Hawaiian music played by Mr. J. Harris. Misses B. Scott, L. Harris, .B. Haynes, B. Mantz, and Mesdames Coombe and ttorner were, on duty on both occasions. This club extends a cordial welcome to girls of the Forces to attend the Friday night dances. CINDERELLAS. The Cinderellas celebrated the New Year'in true Scottish fashion. A delicious meal wa% served by voluntary helpers, and Messrs. G. Marple and T. Duncan, and a Merchant Navy visitor, Mr. Williamson, provided the dance music. On Sunday evening Mrs. Allen supplied the music for dancing. V.M.C.A. SUNDAY TEA. Members of the ladies' auxiliary of the V.M.C.A.' were the hbstesses at the soldiers' tea yesterday evening, •'and Mr. S. Allwright was chairman. The concert which was presented afterwards iwas provided by Mrs. J. R. Wiltshire, Mr. and Mrs. Allwright, Mr. P. L. Brady, Miss Thelma Cusack, and Mr. Ken Aitken. Mr. Allwright led the community singing, with Mr. Mann at the piano. \ . i
