TO BE PROSECUTED
AUSTRALIAN WAR WORKERS
SYDNEY, January 3. Hundreds of workers who absented themselves from their jobs in war production industries here on New Year'p Day will be prosecuted. The Government believes that many of the 35.000 absentee workers were unable to work because key men were absent. Consequently the majority of prosecutions are likely to concern key men. The Attorney-General, Dr. H. V. Evatt, who will make the prosecutions, describes the one-day stoppage as: "Deplorable and indefensible, and a blot on the war effort of the nation." National Security Regulations provide for fines up to £100 or six months' gaol.
