BOWLING
NEW YEAR PAIRS
SECTION PLAY OVER
Only two of the many pairs entered for the Welliington Bowling Centre's New Year tournament came through section play undefeated, those to win the maximum of eight games being W. Morton and A. E. Neilson (s), of Karori, and E. J. Witcombe and J. Taylor (s), of Hataitai. There were, however, seventeen other pairs to qualify for post-section play, which began today on the Newtown Bowling Club's green, the qualification requirement being six wins or the winning of a section. It was an interesting fact that in section D, in which Neilson was undefeated, another Karori pair (R. Thomson and T. Adams) just failed to? come through unscathed by losing one game by a point. Throughout the section play there were many keen games and exciting finishes, and several pairs were decidedly unlucky in not qualifying for post-section play, some failing by the barest margin. Skips of the pairs who qualified were:—Taylor (Hataitai), Neilson (Karori), each 8 wins; Adams (Karori), Hadwin (Hutt), Hurdley (Hutt), Webster lOtaki Railway), Lawrie (Victoria), Glen (Island Bay), Shennan (Seatoun), each 7 wins; Morris (Lyall Bay), Silbery (Petone), Bradley (Lyall Bay), Marshall (Lyall Bay), Bryce (Island Bay), Wilson (Petone), Hastings (Newtown), Inniss (Newtown), Whitcher (Hutt>, and MeWhannell (HataitaD.
