Harley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today for stealing three bottles of whisky and three bottles of brandy, of a total value of £1 16s 6d. It was stated that at 6.25 a.m. yesterday the accused was seen to enter the room of a lodger at the Hotel St. George and to leave carrying six bottles of liquor; A woman employee reported the matter to the licensee and a porter. When the police saw the accused he said at first that he was required to get the liqU'pr from the room for a certain officer, but later admitted stealing it. He had been employed as a porter, but had been dismissed the previous night because of his behaviour. He knew the run of the ropes and got the key to the room from the office.
