GIRAUD'S CONTROL

NO REAL CHANGES

YET

LONDON, January 1. A correspondent in Algiers says that General Giraud has not yet had time to make any real changes in the French North African administration, but when he does there are many people who will hope for a pretty big shake-up among the subordinates. Lots of people, he says, feel that many local men who have never lent themselves to any form of collaboration with the Axis should now be given a chance to use their talents. (Rec. 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 31. The Washington correspondent of the "New York Times" says that General, de Gaulle may visit General Giraud to discuss French unity before coming to Washington. Fighting French representatives say that many de Gaullists are still imprisoned in Algiers, and this is an obstacle to cooperation between the de Gaullists and the North African regime. The Fighting French committee in Ottawa announces that General de Gaulle will visit Ottawa after his visit to Washington.
