MANY ACCIDENTS
The Wellington * Free Ambulance was exceptionally busy over the New Year-period, and over a dozen accident cases were removed to hospital. A Russell, soldier, suffered severe injuries to both legs when he was run over by a train at the Petone station shortly before midnight on Thursday. His condition this afternoon was reported to be satisfactory. Frank Stephens, a schoolboy, of 33 Palm .Avenue, Lyall Bay, fractured his left forearm in a fall at Siiverstream on Thursday afternoon. Mr. John Meikle, labourer, of 121 Tasman Street, suffered concussion and "shock through, falling off a'tramon Thursday afternoon at the corner of Hopper and Webb Streets. Mrs-. A: E. Burgess, of 106 Messines Road, Karori, suffered a lacerated wound over the right eye when she slipped off a tram near the Karori tram tunnel shortly after 7 p.m. on Thutsday Beswick Bowles, aged 6, of Park Avenue, Lower Hutt, fractured his left arm when he fell off a lorry butside, his home on Thursday evening. Noeline Reichenbach, aged 4. of 96 Nottingham' Street. Karori, had her left arm fractured through falling off a tricycle on Thursday evening, Mr, J. Scott, cleaner, of 39 Marion Street,.-suffered head injuries when he was knocked down by a motor-car at the junction of Aro Street and Ohiro Road about 9 p.m. on Thursday. Mr.. John Gardener, lorry driver, of 58 Boulcott Street, suffered concussion through falling off a fire escape at. the house shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, v Mr-. J Thompson, barman, of the Masonic Hotel. Cuba Street, fractured -Wis right wrist in a fall" from a fire escape at-the hotel about 11.40 p.m. on Thur_iday. . Aircraftman J. S. Downie, R N.Z.A.F.. was taken to hospital from Lambton Quay with head injuries and concussion said to have been received in an assault about 12.5 a.m. yesterday. . x X ~ t x Mr: A. Pay, cabinetmaker, of 7 Jackson -Street. Island Bay, suffered concussion and abrasions to his face following a collision between two bicycles in Dee Street, yesterday afternoon. , _ „„„-,,. George Smith, aged 4, of 23 Buckingham Street, Lyall Bay, dislocated »his left elbow in a fall at his home at about 6 p.m. yesterday. Mrs. M. Stewart, of 79 Dpthie Street, Karori. suffered lacerated wounds to Ihe "face and shock through being struck by a motor-car in Waterloo Quay at 12.15 a.m. today. Mr. F. Healy, waterside worker, of 58 Mitchell Street, fractured his right wrist in a fall from a railway truck ; at the Glasgow Wharf today.
