JAP BATTLESHIP STRENGTH

NEW YORK, December 12

Admiral d'Argenlieu, who is en route to London from New Caledonia, told reporters that Japan's naval strength is still imposing inasmuch as .her battleships have not been greatly affected so far. However, her fighting strength is being whittled down and henceforward is bound to ebb.

He expressed the opinion that Admiral Darlan's presence will make it difficult to get the continued participation of the French people in the fight against the Axis, but expressed confidence in President Roosevelt's explanation.
