LONDON, December 13.
American dive-bombers and warships have attacked a formation of 11 Japanese destroyers heading for Guadalcanal and scored another substantial success against the enemy. ,
The enemy formation was seen heading- for Guadalcanal on Friday eveningl, apparently with the object of reinforcing and supplying the Japanese troops. The Japanese ships were attacked by "Douglas Dauntless dive-bombers supported by fighters and bomb hits were scored on five of the destroyers.
A few minutes'later the enemy vessels, which were still proceeding- towards Guadalcanal, were attacked by United States surface ships. One enemy destroyer was sunk, another set on fire, and a third damaged.
The only United States casualty in the operations was one motor-torpedorboat sunk.
