"ENGLAND, AWAKE!"

JEWISH APPEAL

SATANIC NAZI CRIME IN

POLAND

(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 11.10/ajn.) LONDON, Dec. 13. An appeal to the United Nations to open the gates of their countries and save at least the children "from mass poisoning and burial alive by Hitler and his hell-hounds" was made by the Chief Rabbi, Dr. Hertz, preaching on the occasion of the Jewish day of mourning. He added: "We are filled with horror at the deliberate killing of millions of defenceless men, women, and children. Poland has become a vast, slaughterhouse for Jews in Europe. The indifference which a portion of the British Press and some Government circles display towards the most appalling massacre in history is amazing. Public opinion must be aroused to the satanic crime of murdering an entire nation, as well as to the infamy that will be ours if we shut our ears to its death cries. We turn to our beloved England, which for so many centuries has been Europe's conscience and the leader of so many humanitarian crusades,* and agonisingly we exclaim: 'England, awake! Jerusalem, thy sister, calls.'"
