WASHINGTON, December 8. The Office of War Information

says it is estimated that the 1,000,000 Americans at present serving overseas played a more important role in the first year of the war than the 500,000 sent to France in the first year of the last war. The number of engagements in which the Americans participated and the fronts were more far-flung than previously. The navy also played a more important role, while ships were being produced three and a half times faster than in 1918;
