CHINESE OFFENSIVE

CHUNGKING, November 27. The Central News Agency says that the Chinese have begun an offensive north-east of Ichang, which is situated on the Yangtze in the province of Hupeh, 270 miles above' Hankow. They have captured Jihkiho. The Chinese routed a Japanese column along the Skeklung-Kowloon railway and repulsed a Japanese force trying to cross the Kwq River near Kwoy'ang, in the Anhwei Province. Marshal Chiang Kai-shek told the tenth plenary session of the Kuomintang that the Communist Party would be treated like any other civil or military organisation, if it minded its own business and did not attempt to usurp the Government's functions, if it did not organise its own army or attempt to undermine national morale. The Kuomintang approved and issued a manifesto that: "China's initial success towards the abolition of unequal treaties was hard won. The present opportunity should be utilised to strengthen China's national foundation. The successes in North Africa, Russia, and the Solomons are due not only to superior weapons, but also to the revolutionary spirit of civilised mankind."
