The German infantry have, as a result, been suffering heavy losses and have had very little gains. In the past 24 hours, they have made no progress whatever. / On the Nalchik frpnt German tanks appear to be most active. Here, as many as 40 at a time are going into battle as a spearhead for the German infantry, but the Germans are being halted by the extremely active Soviet defence. ■ i
