Mr. Jas. Austin, who died recently in New Plymouth, was one of the oldest ex-councillors of the borough of Petone, having been first elected in 1891. He served for a total period of eight years. The council last evening passed a resolution of sympathy with his relatives.
During the last five months Councillor H. Green, deputy-mayor of Petone, has lost by death, his father; mother, and younger brother. On the motion of Councillor the Hon J. Gumming the council last evening extended to him the. sincere sympathy of Councillors,
