AUCKLAND CLUB

GOVERNMENT HOUSE

SERVICEMEN AND SEAMEN

Government House, Auckland, is being prepared for- use as a club, to be known as "The Government House Club for the Fighting Forces

and the Merchant Navy."

Some months ago the GovernorGeneral informed the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) that he and Lady Newall would like to place Government House, Auckland, at the disposal of the Government for emergency purposes during the war period. It was recently suggested that the building might be made available as a place of rest and recreation for men of the services, and to this proposal their Excellencies have readily agreed.

Mr. Fraser said "yesterday that the Government greatly appreciated this action on the part of their Excellencies.

"The people of New Zealand will, I know," said Mr. Fraser, "wish me to. express on their behalf also their grateful thanks for this further instance of the very deep interest and solicitude 'which their Excellencies have displayed in their regard for the welfare and wellbeing of the people of the Dominion, and in particular of all those who are fighting in the service of their country."
