HOW GENERAL GIRAUD ESCAPED
(Rec. 9 a.m.)
LONDON, Nov. 11
The Madrid correspondent of the "Daily Mail" says that General Giraud escaped from France in a plane in which the Vichy Governor-General, M. Chatel, intended to return to Algiers. Since his escape' from a German prison camp General Giraud hau been placed in a house near Lyons which plain-clothed police watched night and day. Last Friday General Giraud's batman let drop the information that the General was in bed with a cold, in order to, dispel suspicion when the General was not seen. General Giraud actually had secretly left for Marseilles, where he put on full uniform and drove in a military cax% accompanied by two staff officers, to Marignana aerodrome, where a plane was waiting for M. Chatel. A fake telephone call purporting to come from the military governor's office told the airfield to prepare the plane immediately to take off on a military mission for Algiers.
