ABRAHAM AND WILLIAMS, LTD. Directors of Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. Wellington, report for the year ended September 30, being the forty-first year of the company's existence, that the net profit for the year after providing for debenture interest, social and national security and laud and income tax, amounts to £5137 15s sd, to which has to be added the amount brought forward from last year, £2G,405 Ha 9d, making a total of £31,543 10s 2d. From this sum has to be deducted the interim dividend of 2Vj percent, for sis months ended March 31, 1942, paid on April 30 last, £2200 16.5, leaving a balance availablo for distribution of £20,336 14s 2d Out of this sum the directors recommend that a dividend of 2 3/2 per cent, be paid, which, together with 2^ per cent, paid on April 30 last, makes 5 per cent, for the year, leaving £27,120 18s 2d to be carried forward to next year's accounts. The dividend will be payable at the close of the annual meeting. Net profit last year was £4978. Tho directors record with cieep regret the death in January last of Mr. R. S. Abraham^ the founder of the business and chairman of the company since its formation. Messrs Dal lan and R. W. Steel, retiring directors, offer themselves for re-election. The retiring auditor, Mr. R. A. Brace, also offers himself for J re-election. WAIHI INVESTMENTS. Special cabled advice lias been received from London by J. H. G. Banks's local attorney. Auckland, that at the annual meeting of Wai hi Investments and Exploration, Ltd., on November 2U, the directors will recommend a dividend of 2Vi per cent., less English inconio tax at 8s 5.493 din the £, which is the full standard rate Of British income tax at, 10s in the £, less estimated relief In respect of Dominion income tax at Is ,<3.507d. The dividend will be payable in November. Accounts show that for the year ended September 30, profits were £5145, amount brought forward was £482> and balance of £2050 will be carried forward, against. £452 brought in a year ago, when the dividend reeonihionded was 4 per cent. less British income tax at 0s 3.75 din the £. The profit compares with £3384 last year, and £9085 in ' 1940. The company's income was formerly derived chiefly frbm' Subsidiary Puket Tin Dredging, Ltd.. Thailand, whose property lias been occupied by the Japanese, and from investments. There is also interest in a Victorian gold dredging venture. MINE AND DREDGE. Ngahere dredge for October returned -llaoz for 524 hours from 247,730 yards. Associated Gold Dredges return for the five days ended October 31 was 1360z from 56,000 yards. Martha (Waihi) Mine Co., Auckland, has cabled to the Lrtndon office as follows: —For period ended October 17. 14,299 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 3672 tine oz of gold and 29.538 fine oz of silver. Criishlnc time, 20 days. Alexander Mines gold returns for October were:—l4o tond ore crushed for 87oz 13dwt melted gold, and in cyanide department, l"i(i tons sands treated for return of 440z 13dwt bullion; total estimated value, £1011. In addition concentrates saved amounting to 2J,4 tons, valued at £60. Gold has been taken at U>oa per fine oz. Xo. (5 level. N.K. drive, advanced a total of 25ft and intersected track formation. Tills has been exposed a further 10ft N., with trace of stone showiug on foot wall. Track material assays only 11 and 9 grains gold. Stoping carried out mainly in S. stopo and corresponding- amount of filling completed. Ventilation crosscut drive 22ft to connect the X. and S. blocks of stone, all waste being used for tilling. For month, 140 tons clean ore. Slab Hut Creek return. 16oz for 101 hours and Kj.300 yards. ....... FRUIT AND VEGETABLES.
