MAJESTIC THEATRE
Dramatising the life and work of one of America's outstanding women, "Blossoms in the Dust,' 'the new picture at the Majestic Theatre, is one of the most important films that have been shown for a long time. It is the story of a woman's courage and unconquerable spirit in her fight for recognition of foundlings, and the removal of the stigma that attaches to their names. The urge to do something for these unfortunates arises out of the grief and tragedy of her own life, the loss of her foster-sister, her son, and her husband, and she battles her way against prejudice and prudishness to the floor of the Senate and finally wins out. The picture is a triumph for Greer Garson, who takes the part of Mrs. Gladney, and carries the whole story by herself for much of the way. Walter Pidgeon plays the part of her husband, a fine character who gives her every encouragement in her life task. The picture is filmed in Technicolor, and is notable for its striking backgrounds. The supports include a cartoon and a Pete Smith specialty.
