AXIS LIES

ALLEGED SINKING OF U.S.

TRANSPORTS

LONDON, October 22.

The United States Army Chief in the European zone made this announcement in London tonight:

"At the end of September the Axis spread stories that several large oceangoing liners, heavily laden with American troops, had been torpedoed. These claims are completely unfounded and are merely another example of the untrustworthiness of Axis reports." He added that this information had been withheld until eyery American soldier on the 'Atlantic at the time of the German announcement had been landed safely in the United Kingdom.
