DIFFERENT KEYS

RECENT NAZI SPEECHES

BERLIN RADIO TRIES TO

EXPLAIN

LONDON, October 4.

The Berlin radio and the Paris radio tried today to clear up misapprehensions which are said to have followed yesterday's speech by Field-Marshal Goering.

Apparently the Germans and the French cannot understand the difference in tone between this speech and that of Hitler a few days ago. They ax-e also puzzled by the fact that speeches by Ribbentrop, Goebbels, Hitler, and Goering came in such quick succession. The popular theory is that the timing of these speeches was upset because the anticipation that Stalingrad would fall did not come true.. ;.■■•■■.

The German radio said: "Official circles in Berlin stress that it is coincidental and not intentional that all these speeches occurred so closely together. There is actually no conflict between what was said by Hitler and Goering. Hitler addressed the German nation as its spiritual leader; Goering spoke as head of the German war economy and as head of the German air force." The radio added: "He therefore spoke with frank brutality, and did not hesitate to mention difficulties."
