Mr. G. Austin, a machinist, of 4' High Street, Petone, had his right hand J mutilated when it was caught.in a machine at a Lower Hutt factory on Saturday. The Free Ambulance took him to hospital. Though both north and south-bound tram tracks through Manners Street are now reopened, the street is still closed to vehicular traffic, and is likely to remain so for two or three weeks yet, owing to the amount of scaffolding and other building materials about k the roadway.
