FINISH OF SEASON

WELLINGTON'S BIG WIN Wellington's Rugby representatives wound lip the season with a groat burst of scoring at Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon. They were up against the, Army Central side, one* which was regarded highly, and on the run of play in the first spell of the match Wellington's prospects of finishing up with a win wore anything but bright. A remarkable change c-ame over the game in the second spell, for which 'the Wellington players came out full of running. A fast, loose type of operation was employed, and it was sustained by .rush after rush, each one pressed with telling effect upon the opposition. The pressure was too much for the Army, which became almost a spent force after having been sprightly and energetic in the first session. Wellington romped home by 29 points (all scored ia the second spell) to 12. The match was played in excellent weather and attracted quite a large crowd, which was kept keenly Interested by the fast-moving action and the succession of scoring efforts. Prior to the start of the match the players were Introduced to Major-General Weir, O.C. the district. Army Central showed up *to advantage in the first spell, with Morton (the captain) always a shining light. Dashing work resulted in three tries being scored —by Pitt, Roper, and Kay. One of these resulted from a movement started by Jamiesou on the left flank and finishing with the try by Roper on the other side of the field. None of the \ tries was • converted, and the spell ended 9-0. In the second session Wellington attacked repeatedly, and after a while when the defence beg-an 'to crack, they put. on points freely. Tries were scored by Bills, Stanaway, Freeman, Kingstone, Baumber, Dougan, and Harvey, Kingstone and Stanaway each converting one and Beard kicking a field goal. Always in the picture was the Wellington half-back, Dougan, and Freeman, too, was amongst the smartest of a side in which all came Into the limelight. Near the finish of the match Army Central gained another try (scored by Walker). The result was: Wellington 29, Army Central 12. Mr. W. R. Ellison was the referee.
