ST. MARK'S SCHOOL

SILVER JUBILEE SERVICE

The culmination of the celebrations in connection with the silver jubilee lof St. Mark's Church School was ; reached yesterday at a special service ,in St. Mark's Church. The service was 1 conducted by the vicar, the Rev. Canon N. F. E. Robertshawe, and among those present were . the Governor-General , and Lady Newall and their son, with Major C. J. Holland-Martin in attendance. The Prime Minister and Mrs. Fraser were also, among the congregation. The Lessons were read by his Excellency and by Miss Holm, the principal, of St. Mark's School. The collection was for the Diocesan Earthquake Relief Fund. The preacher, Archdeacon Bullock, said it was significant that at the present time there were important gatherings everywhere discussing the relation of religion to education. Education needed three essentials. It must be vocational, that was, it must know |in which direction the child was going. It must have its social side, its games !of all kinds, to promote the team spirit. 1 And it"must also have its spiritual side, without which education was, in com- , plete. The world was coming to realise this, and it was thus that a "vision of ; greatness" had arisen.
