THREE APPOINTMENTS

The appointments of Women's Army Auxiliary Corps district commandants —one for each military district—were announced today. They are:— Northern District.—Miss Dorothy Hawkins. Central District. —Mrs. Douglas Whyte. Southern District.—Miss J. N. Erwin. Miss Hawkins, who has had wide adI ministrative and executive experience i over a number of years in numerous | women's organisations, was organiser lof the Women's National Service Corps in Auckland and has been commandant of the corps since 'its inception. An Englishwoman by birth, Miss Hawkins served in the Women's Royal Air Force during the last war. For a long period she has been sports mistress at the Hilltop School, Khyber Pass, Auckland. Mrs. Whyte is deputy chairman of the Wellington branch of the Women's War Service Auxiliary and has also taken an active interest in the work of the Red Cross Society. She is president of the Karori branch of the Red Cross Society, and a vice-president of the Wellington Plunket Society. Miss Erwin has for some years been sister-in-charge of the massage department of the Christchurch Hospital. She was in- the Army Nursing Service during the last war and is matron of the Services' peace-time organisation. She has done part-time duty during this war for the matron-in-chief (Miss Willis). , ..
