GENERAL ALEXANDER
VISIT TO N.Z. BASE CAMP
(Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) CAIRO, September 13. The commander of the Middle East I'orces, the youthi'ul-looking and energetic General Alexander, paid his first visit to the New Zealand base camp yesterday. The general impressed all by his purposefulness. He had come to see all he could in the short time at his disposal, and he showed quick understanding of everything he was shown. He met senior officers at camp headquarters, and chatted with every one
of them, and was whisked away to the school of instruction, standing erect in his open car, just as many of our troops have seen him in the desert. His hatband w^.s a' faded red, brought about by the constant sun-glare. After visiting the school he went to the Maadi recreation tent, where, as usual, there were many New Zealanders, and they raised their hats in a cheer as he drove on".
