j Staffs at the station booking offices [were busy today readjusting booking in view of the restricted train services. Journeys not necessitating a permit were previously restricted to 100 miles; now the distance is 50 miles. Consequently, all previous bookings for 100 miles and over have to be reconsidered. In order that everyone should be treated equally, these, revised bookings are being attended to by the central station only to ensure uniformity. Permits will be issued only to persons travelling in the interests of the State or where a bona fide case is established for essential^ travel in connection with bereavement or serious illness. Persons who ordinarily travel for private business reasons will not receive permits unless it can be established that such business is in some way essential from the national viewpoint and that a personal visit is absolutely necessary in the conduct of the business. Permits will not be required by passengers undertaking journeys of 50 miles or less, by holders of season tickets for distances exceeding 50 miles, or by members of the Armed Forces.
