Lower Hutt Mothers. s At'the annual meeting of the Lower Hutt branch'of the League of Mothers, the following were elected to office:— President, Mrs. W. O. Gibb (reelected); vice-presidents, Mesdames Andrews, Lowe. Hooson, and King; secretary, Mrs. N. Liebezeit; assistant secretary, Mrs. S. Kay; treasurer, Mrs. S E. Oppehheim; assistant treasurer, Mrs. W. H. Earnshaw. The remainder of the meeting was spent in a "Kitchen Quiz," which was 'much enjoyed by the members. Miramar Townswomen. An interesting, talk on Burma was given by Mrs. Gibson Young at a recent meeting of the Miramar Townswomen's Guild (Federation). New members were welcomed. A letter of thanks for gifts was received from the Miramar Fighting Services Club. The guild will hold a social afternoon shortly to raise funds for patriotic purposes. . Tea Dance Next Wednesday. The Younger Set of the Victoria League is organising a tea dance which is to be held at the Majestic Cabaret next Wednesday between 5.30 and 7.30 p.m. The proceeds will go towards the \ Patriotic All-Purposes Appeal Fund. There are to be floor shows and altogether members and friends are assured i of a delightful entertainment. i Red Cross Lectures Combined. Owing to a shortage oi' lecturers, the j Hataitai and Lyall Bay'sub-centres of! the Red Cross Society have decided! to combine their classes in hygiene and | sanitation, and students are advised! that the next, lecture will be held oirj Wednesday, September 16, at 7 p.m.! in the Red Cross rooms, Childers Ter- i race. j Waiwh.etu School . Tournament. On Saturday a large crowd of players and spectators'gather-at the Wai-, whetu School grounds to take part in the annual tournaments. After the games were over players and spectators adjourned to St. Paul's Hall, W&iwhetu, for tea, when the cups were presented, and a talk on the Campaign for Christian Order was given by the Rev. H. Bowyer. Afterwards there was an hour's dancing. Miramar Hospitality. j The Miramar Fighting Services Hospitality Club was a popular rendezvous for the men of the forces last Sunday. Music for dancing was provided by Messrs. M. Jones and D. Richardson. Comniunity singing .was led by Mrs. Jennings, who also gave vocal solos, and Mr. Peter Rowell gave vocal and tap-dancing items. Staff-1 Sergeant George Spooner, recently returned from the Middle East, was the master of cetemonies. Afternoon tea, tea, and supper were provided by Mrs. Appleyard's party.
