PICTURES AND MORALS
(0.C.) PALMERSTON N., This Day,
In a letter to the Wanganui Education Board the Minister of Education (Mr.' Mason) stated: "I appreciate very much the interest your board is taking in the moral welfare of the children of New Zealand and hope that the publicity which has been given the question through your efforts will be the means of encouraging parents to take their responsibilities more seriously." The remark refers to unsuitable moving pictures. The board does, not see eye to eye with the Minister," who, it considers, has it in his power to remedy matters. The chairman, Mr. Hemingway, said that if there were poison gas escaping the Government would soon seal the source and not just say to parents, "don't let your children go near it." The board intends to ask the other boards: which have prveiously supported Wanganui's move for Government action to send delegates to a conference to appoint a deputation to the Government.
