BRITISH INCREASES BECOME EFFECTIVE

RUGBY, Aug. 17,

The increased rates of supplementary pensions which were approved by Parliament last month come into force this week. Over a million old people who are now receiving supplementary pensions from the assistance board will nave their allowances raised by 2s 6d weekly, or 5s for a married couple. The total increase will amount to nearly £10,000,000 a year, and will bring the total of old age pensions to £ 135.000,000 a year.—B.O.W.
