WAITING TO RISE

PEOPLE OF FRANCE

REFUGEE'S OPINION

LONDON, August 11. A possible Allied invasion of France has been discussed by a French refugee who escaped from France on the eve of being seized as a hostage. Until recently he was doing underground propaganda for the Allied cause. . He said that if there was an i Allied landing in France it would be the signal for a general flare up, as about 90 per cent, of the population were waiting to rise. He suggested that when the time came every soldier should take three rifles —one for himself and two for the French people. Paris radio said today that acts of terrorism had begun again. This "unpleasant activity," it said, had died down for several weeks, but had suddenly sprung into action again as if at the word of command.
