LONDON, August 1.1. United States Mannes have been fighting the Japanese hand-to-hand in the Solomons battle. The United States Navy Department says: "In close co-operation with other Allied forces, the Marines have opened the door of the Allied offensive in the South Pacific." It. is stated that pressure on Allied communications must delay regular information. Messages indicate that the Allied forces have gained some success in the face of ■ strong Japanese counter-attacks.
