VISITING FORCES

INFORMATION BUREAU

The information bureau conducted by the British-American Co-operation Movement in the Allied Services' Club in Manners Street is engaged upon the compilation of a record of the hobbies and peacetime occupations of visiting servicemen, which it is hoped will be of great value in bringing the servicemen in contact with local residents of similar tastes. Visitors to the bureau are invited to fill in a form upon which they may indicate their favourite sporting and social activities and their usual occupations. The information thus obtained is indexed by the staff of' the bureau, and when enough of it has been obtained it will be possible to put not only individuals, but large groups of visiting servicemen into touch with sporting bodies and other organisations which might wish to extend hospitality in Wellington. One of the principal difficulties of citizens has been to get in touch with prospective guests among the visitors, and the British-American Co-operation Movement believes that its register will solve that problem. In addition, the bureau provides all kinds of local and travel information) for visiting servicemen. A rota of 1 about 70 women, the majority of them wives or daughters of members of the British-American Co-operation Movement, provides a continuous staffing of j the bureau every day of the week, and the movement also provides the hosts at the club to see that everything runs j smoothly.
