Ashworth, D.F.C., of Alexandra, Otago. He is one of the airmen whom Mr. Nash, met last week. Squadron Leader Arthur Ashworth was born in Gisborne in 1920 and educated at the Alexandra District High School. His mother, Mrs- E. M. Ashworth, lives at Alexandria. He approached his objective after dropping flares and circling above the area for 75 minutes. He also aimed a bomb over a 10,000-ton ship entering the docks. After dropping his bombs, despite an intense barrage, he made eight surveying runs at a low altitude. "He displayed outstanding skill and courage and infinite care in his efforts to bomb the objectives accurately," the citation stated.
